There can be many reasons to prefer one wristwatch over another, but often it’s the same features and functions we want.
The problem is that quality and price usually go hand in hand.
So the question is: How much quality can you get for how low a price?
The watch I want to present today I have owned myself and always been fully satisfied with. It’s a men’s watch that has many good features and can be used both as a work watch and a dress watch.
It’s a so-called atomic watch, it’s really cheap and it’s called Casio WV58DA-1AV.
Roughly About This Watch
Price is important and this model is not expensive. Retail price is $50, but you can often get this watch for as little as $30 on Amazon and that is a reasonable price considering what you get for your money.

This model is radio-controlled and uses Wave Ceptor technology, which means that the watch always shows the exact time down to the second.
(Read more about how Wave Ceptor works here)
It’s also water resistant to 50 m, meaning that it will survive a swim in the pool or a shower, and that is of course a big plus.
It’s not recommended to wear this watch while bathing or showering on regular basis, but if you happen to do it once in a while it will not be a problem.
The watch’s display is informative and tells both time, date, month, year and day of the week all at once, just by a turn of your wrist. No need to press buttons first!
In addition, the watch offers a wide range of useful functions. We will come back to that.
Please note that the strap is made of stainless steel, whereas the case is mainly made of resin, which has then been painted silver.
This means that there is a slight color difference between the watch case and the strap, but it’s not something that stands out.
That is one of the reasons why Casio can sell this watch so cheaply. If you want both case or strap to be stainless less, it might be better to look at the Lineage series, where the overall quality is higher.
Specifications In Detail
An electro-luminescent panel causes the entire face to glow for easy reading.

Elapsed time, split time and final time are measured with 1/100-sec accuracy. The watch can measure times of up to 1 hour.
The countdown timers help you to remember specific or recurring events by giving off an audible signal at a preset time. The time can be set to the nearest minute and up to 1 hour in advance.
The daily alarm reminds you of events that recur every day, by emitting an audible signal at the set time.
The name of the day can be displayed in different languages.
The button tones for using the mode button can be turned off. This means that the watch no longer beeps when switching from one function to another. Preset alarm or countdown timers remain active when the button tones are deactivated.
Once set, the automatic calendar always displays the correct date.

Conclusion
For the price the Casio WV58DA-1AV is a truly great wristwatch with many nice features and functions.
The disadvantages of this watch are primarily about the watch case which is mainly made of resin and the crystal which is made of acrylic glass.
Of course, it would have been better if the watch case had been made entirely of stainless steel and then it would have been a great improvement if the crystal had been made of mineral at least. Mineral is both more durable and resistant to scratches than acrylic glass.
But it is in these two areas that Casio has chosen to reduce production costs. In return, it has given Casio the opportunity to offer a watch that is both radio-controlled and water resistant to 50 m, and which most people can afford.
In addition, it is packed with good, useful functions and has a good informative display.
As a men’s watch, it’s also a model that looks good and can be used both as a work watch and dress watch.
For the price, the Casio WV58DA-1AV gets a clear recommendation from here.
